Jammers Take Twinbill from Scrappers

Jamestown, NY- Mother Nature forced the Jammers and Scrappers to play a double header Tuesday night. Jamestown would combine to shutout Mahoning Valley over the course of 14 innings that were played between the two games. The Jammers picked up 8-0 and 1-0 victories to move to 41-25 on the season.
In the first game of the night Isaac Sanchez toed the mound for Jamestown looking for the win. Sanchez would turn in three scoreless innings, striking out one batter and walking one. Luis Gomez kept the Jammers off the scoreboard through the first two innings, but would falter an inning later. Jamestown would score the first of their seven runs against Gomez in the third inning as Wyatt Mathisen singled home two runners to give the Jammers a 2-0 lead. Edwin Espinal would increase the lead to 3-0 by driving in Mathisen one batter later.
The Jammers offense would continue to roll in the fourth as they put up four more runs to extend their lead to 7-0. Espinal would come through big once again for the Jammers by capping off the inning with a two run single before Mathisen was tagged out at third base to end the inning. Justin Topa and Oderman Rocha teamed up to secure the shutout with four scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Jamestown. Topa would go on to pick up his fifth win of the season as he moved to 5-2 in the 8-0 victory.
Game two of the night would have a much slower scoring pace to it as both teams would combine for just seven hits. Jamestown sent Buddy Borden to the mound for his second start of the season against Matt Whitehouse who sported a 4-0 record with a 0.64 ERA. The Jammers would crack the scoreboard first as Danny Collins would score on a wild pitch by Whitehouse after reaching base on a Robel Garcia error.
With the Jammers leading 1-0 the scoring would come to a hault as both starting pitchers continued to work in fine form. Borden would exit the game with the lead in the fifth inning after allowing just one hit and seven strikeouts. Andrew Otamendi would come on to pitch the fifth and sixth innings which would lead to him garnering the win. Henry Hirsch worked a clean seventh inning after the potential tying and go ahead runs to reach base.
The back-to-back shutouts now give the Jammers 10 on the season as they will close out the three game series with Mahoning Valley Wednesday night at Diethrick Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. on Jamestown Community College Night. Dovydas Neverauskas is scheduled to get the start for the Jammers tomorrow night as he looks to pick up win number five.
