BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield Jam announced today that they have acquired guard Xavier Silas off waivers.
"We are all very excited to have Xavier Silas with us," said Bakersfield Jam General Manager Bubba Burrage. "Not only have we added to our talent base, but we've also added more experience, professionalism and character to our team. We think Xavier also gives us a needed boost midway through the season and he'll provide the coaching staff with another variable to work with. We are looking forward to partnering with Xavier and helping him get back into the NBA."
Silas (6-5, 198, Northern Illinois) started the 2015-16 season playing in Germany before joining San Lorenzo de Almagro in Argentina mid-November. He played in seven games (6 starts) for San Lorenzo de Almagro and posted averages of 12.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game. Silas brings two seasons of NBA D-League experience, where in 73 total games with the Maine Red Claws (2011-13) he averaged 10.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 26.5 minutes per contest. While with the Red Claws, Silas earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Philadelphia 76ers (2011-12). During his time with the 76ers, he appeared in two games and averaged 5.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per game.
The Austin, TX-native has been a member of the Washington Wizards (2014, 2013) and Philadelphia 76ers (2012, 2011) training camps. He has also played professionally in Greece, Israel and France.
As a senior at Northern Illinois, Silas led the Mid-American Conference in scoring with 22.3 points per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor, 41.3 percent from 3-point range and 85.1 percent from the line.
