AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Spurs (18-21), presented by SWBC, fell to the Salt Lake City Starts (13-25), 119-113, at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park Sunday afternoon.
On assignment from San Antonio, Bryn Forbes led Austin with 30 points (9-16 FG, 6-8 3FG, 6-7 FT) and 3 assists in 35 minutes, while fellow San Antonio assignee Davis Bertans recorded 19 points (8-8 FT) and 4 rebounds in 31 minutes. Charles Garcia chipped in with 14 points (4-8 FG, 6-8 FT) and 5 rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.
Austin opened the game with a 9-0 run, but Salt Lake City was able to tie the game 19-19 with 2:40 left in the first quarter, and then began to pull away. After being down by as many as 13 in the second quarter, the Spurs trailed by eight (56-48) at the end of the half behind Forbes' 12 points. Throughout the third, the Stars' lead hovered around 12 points before coming out on top by 18 to go into the fourth. Austin brought the game to within four points three times during the last three minutes, but could not outpace Salt Lake City.
For the Stars, Jermaine Taylor finished with 29 points and 3 rebounds in 41 minutes, while Joel Bolomboy posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in 31 minutes.
