Red Claws Set Franchise Record for Wins in Rout of Erie

March 15, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Maine Celtics News Release

The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, won a team record 28th game of the season as they defeated the Erie Bayhawks 131-106. The sellout crowd at the Portland Expo witnessed an all-around great shooting display from in the field and behind the arc, as the Red Claws never once trailed the Bayhawks.

Romero Osby (14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) was the man with the hot hands for Maine in the first quarter. Osby started the game strong with six points in the first 4:00. One of those first six points came off a nifty pass through two defenders from Andre Stringer. The Red Claws continued their hot streak in the first quarter with the help of Omari Johnson (19 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist) who totaled 8 of his 19 total points in the first quarter. Field goal shooting for Maine was the big difference maker in the first quarter as Maine shot 70% from the field in the opening quarter.

Peyton Siva (20 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists) led a charge of his own in the second quarter for the Bayhawks. Siva hit 15 of his 20 total points in the second quarter which cut some of the Red Claws lead as both teams headed into the half. Erie came close to making a comeback in the second, but the Red Claws showed one of their best team efforts as all Red Claws but one contributed points to the shooting efforts.

Looking to keep the shooting streak alive in the second half, the Red Claws let the three's fly. Maine would go on to hit 6 of their 21 three pointers in the third quarter alone, which was just one three pointer away from tying the teams overall record for most three pointers in a game. The three point shooting frenzy was led by Tim Frazier (15 points, 2 rebounds, 12 assists) as the Red Claws hit four three's on four consecutive trips, all assisted by Frazier.

Leading the offense for the Bayhawks was Drew Crawford (20 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist), Peyton Siva, Jarvis Williams (19 points, 7 rebounds), John Bohannon (15 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist), and Lenzelle Smith (10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists). Crawford and Siva had a strong performance on offense, but they couldn't keep up with Rodney McGruder's strong field goal shooting. McGruder (23 points, 3 rebounds) was one of six Red Claws to shoot in double digits on the night. Michael Schachtner (11 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist) heated up off the bench in the fourth quarter scoring all of his 11 points in one quarter. Omari Johnson (19 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist), Romero Osby (14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists), Tim Frazier, Jason Calliste (13 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists), Davion Berry (10 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, and Rodney McGruder all shot in double digits alongside Schachtner.

The Red Claws will look to extend their all-time winning record as they head on the road for four consecutive games, starting Tuesday night at Grand Rapids. Maine will be back at home at the Portland Expo on Friday, March 27th as they take on Westchester at 7:00pm. Erie next plays Friday, March 20th at Delaware.
