Red Claws Lose at Buzzer After Game-Winner Overturned

January 21, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Maine Celtics News Release

Erie, PA - January 21, 2015 - Seth Curry won the game, but only moments after Tim Frazier thought he had won it.

In a wild series of events, the Erie Bayhawks walked off the floor with a 95-93 win over the Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum. Curry drained the game-winner as time expired to walk off with a thrilling win that didn't come without controversy.

After a one-shot foul tied the game at 93, Maine (17-6) was awarded the ball for what appeared to be the last possession of the game. Frazier threw in a shot to put the Red Claws up by two, but the basket was waved off by the officials. It appeared that Frazier had recovered his own tipped shot and put it in, but the refs ruled that the ball was not tipped, and called travelling instead.

Erie (9-16) advanced the ball. Curry then used a head fake to get open and drain a baseline jumper as time expired.

Frazier finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. The Red Claws were also led by Christian Watford (17 points, 15 rebounds) and Rodney McGruder (15 points, 6 rebounds). The Red Claws shot just 39% for the game, and 16% (5-31) from three point range.

For the Bayhawks, Curry led all scorers with 19 points to go with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Red Claws return to action Friday night in Delaware, before returning home Saturday night for a showdown at the Expo with Sioux Falls.
