LA Galaxy News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014) - The LA Galaxy will begin their First To Five postseason tour with Herbalife in Quito, Ecuador and Lima, Peru on Wednesday, Dec. 10 before returning Sunday, Dec. 14. LA Galaxy President Chris Klein, LA Galaxy II Head Coach Curt Onalfo, Sports Scientist Alex Savva and players Landon Donovan, Omar Gonzalez, Jaime Penedo, A.J. DeLaGarza, Gyasi Zardes, Marcelo Sarvas, Juninho and Leonardo will represent the Galaxy during the tour in addition to various Herbalife representatives.
The community-based trip will see the Galaxy participate in various sports clinics with local youth in both countries in addition to visiting children at various Casa Herbalife locations. The Casa Herbalife Program is a Herbalife Family Foundation (HFF) initiative that offers basic nutrition needs to children in various countries throughout the world.
The Galaxy will visit the Casa Herbalife La Buena Esperanza location in Peru and the Casa Herbalife La Fundacion Sinsoluka location in Ecuador. While there, Galaxy players will interact and play soccer with children at Casa Herbalife before helping them paint banners and murals located in the Casa Herbalife garden.
Additionally, the Galaxy will host various coaching symposiums to local youth coaches, with LA Galaxy II Head Coach Curt Onalfo providing instruction.
LA Galaxy Sports Scientist Alex Savva will also host a sports symposium with university sports medicine and nutrition students.
The trip marks the second this year in which the Galaxy have served communities in Central or South American countries along with Herbalife. Earlier this year, the LA Galaxy celebrated the opening of the 100th Herbalife Family Foundation's Casa Herbalife Program when they visited Hogar y Futuro, A.C. in Mexico this February.
The Galaxy's tour to Peru and Ecuador will be the first international tour for the First To Five LA Galaxy, who became the first team to win five MLS Cups when they defeated the New England Revolution, 2-1 on Sunday, Dec. 7 in the 2014 MLS Cup Final.
