Late Comeback Burns Sens
July 6, 2014 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators were not able to avoid the sweep on Sunday as the Altoona Curve came from behind to win 6-5 at Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona.
Once again, the Senators were on the board first as Quincy Latimore scored on an error and Ricky Hague knocked in Caleb Ramsey with an RBI single to make it 2-0 in the first inning. Cole Leonida (3-for-4, two runs) doubled to start the second inning and was later singled in by Michael Taylor (2-for-4, RBI) to extend Harrisburg's lead to three. Jason Martinson led off the fourth inning with his fifth home run of the year. Leonida followed with a walk, moved to second on a passed ball and then to third on an Adrian Sanchez ground out. Senators' starting pitcher Brian Dupra singled down the right field line to bring home Leonida for the pitcher's first RBI of the season. The Sens left two runners on in the fifth and sixth innings, and then stranded the bases loaded in the seventh.
Dupra pitched the first 5.2 innings for the Senators. The tall righty allowed four runs (three earned) in his time on the mound and left the game in the sixth with two runners on. Tyler Herron kept those two runners stranded as he finished the inning by inducing a fly out. Neil Holland walked a man in the seventh but picked up a double play on his way to a scoreless inning. However in the eighth, with the Senators leading 5-4, Robert Benincasa walked Altoona's Keon Broxton with one out. Broxton came around to score on a Benincasa throwing error while trying to get the out on a sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, Altoona pulled ahead for the win with an RBI single by Alen Hanson.
The Senators will return home tomorrow night to begin a nine-game, eight-day homestand. Harrisburg will begin a four-game set with the Bowie Baysox by sending John Simms to the mound. Bowie will go with right-hander Zach Davies in the opener beginning at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
The Senators box office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available via telephone during the same hours as the box office hours. Tickets are also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, online at www.senatorsbaseball.com.
