Austin, TX - The Austin Toros fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 128-115 Saturday evening at Cedar Park Center. Austin Daye, on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, recorded a double-double (27 points, 13 rebounds).
Five Toros scored in double-digits including Courtney Fells (13), Dexter Pittman (14), Greg Gantt (17), Austin Daye (27) and Cardell Johnson off the bench with 20 points.
Vipers' Robert Covington, on assignment from the Houston Rockets, led all scorers and posted a double-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds. Tony Bishop added 22 points and seven rebounds. Gary Talton also tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.
The Vipers saw an early lead, outscoring the Toros 34-26 at the end of the first quarter. Rio Grande Valley's Troy Daniels went 8-10 from the field to help the Vipers keep the lead into the half 68-57. Mid-way through the third quarter, the Vipers saw their largest lead of 22 points. Carldell Johnson scored 12 of his total 20 points in the third quarter, but the Toros could not muster a comeback.
The Austin Toros (16-26) play again Thursday March 20th against the Los Angeles D-fenders at Cedar Park Center. Rio Grande Valley Vipers (28-13) continue their road trip travelling to Reno for a double-header starting March 17th.
