WILMINGTON, Del. (June 16, 2013) - The Winston-Salem Dash ended the first half of the 2013 season with their Carolina League-leading eighth shutout thanks to a 7-0 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Sunday afternoon at Frawley Stadium.

Although the Dash (38-32) could not take advantage of the wildness of Blue Rocks starter Tyler Sample (0-3) in the first, they would in the second. Sample hit Grant Buckner and followed with back-to-back walks to Brent Tanner and David Herbek to load the bases. Joe De Pinto then cleaned the bases with a double to give Winston the lead. Two outs later, De Pinto would tally the frame's fourth run on an error by second baseman Justin Trapp.

Sample would leave after the third, turning things over to Daniel Hernandez. Hernandez was greeted by De Pinto, who started the fourth with his second double of the afternoon. Joey DeMichele followed with a single, and Adam Heisler drew a walk to again load the bases for the Dash. Chris Curley would drive in a run with a sacrifice fly, but Winston-Salem would not get any more as Wilmington (33-37) turned a double play to end the threat.

The Dash would add a pair in the sixth to make it 7-0. Curley hit his 13th long ball of the campaign, giving him three RBIs on the afternoon and 51 on the season, which leads the Carolina League.

Seven runs would be plenty of offense for Winston-Salem starter Jason Van Skike (3-1). The righty tossed a career-high five innings while allowing just two hits and one walk to pick up his first win as a starter in his minor league career.

In relief of Van Skike, the trio of Joseph Dvorsky, Brandon Hardin and Cody Winiarski combined to keep Wilmington scoreless over the final four frames while surrendering just two baserunners.

Now that the season's first half has concluded, the Dash will have the next four days off for the All-Star break. Winston-Salem will send four to Tuesday's All-Star Game in San Jose, Calif. Curley, Jeremy Farell, Chris Bassitt and Chris Beck will represent the Dash on the West Coast.

The Dash return to action on Friday night as they open up the second half slate on the road against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Coverage begins on wsdash.com at 6:50 with the Pregame Dash, and first pitch will follow from Lynchburg City Stadium at 7:05.

Winston-Salem's next homestand begins on June 24 as the Dash open up a four-game series against the Salem Red Sox. For tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
