Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, OR - It was a pitcher's duel at PK Park for eight and a half innings. Boise's starter Paul Blackburn dazzled through five innings recording 8 strikeouts and allowing just one base runner which came on a two-out single in the 1st inning. Blackburn teamed with reliever Corbin Hoffner to retire 22 straight Emeralds through 8 innings.

For Eugene, Yimmi Brasoban was up to the task as he allowed just two hits in his five innings of work. Coby Cowgill came in for three innings of relief work without allowing a hit or a walk. He did have to pitch through a runner in scoring position with one out after a throwing error and a stolen base put CF Kevin Encarnacion at second base. Cowgill would strike out the next two hitters to eliminate the threat.

The Hawks had another chance in the top of the 9th when speedster Shawon Dunston Jr. singled and moved to second on a wild pitch with one out. Ems reliever Jorge Guzman would record a strikeout and a flyout to get out of the jam.

That set the stage for some the bottom of the 9th drama. Pinch hitter Henry Charles took a 2-2 offering from Tyler Bremer and deposited on the roof of the practice facility in right field to send 4,185 fans home happy.

The rubber match of the three game series starts at 5:05pm Sunday night here at PK Park. Limited box seating is available at www.EmeraldsBaseball.com or by stopping by the box office atfter 10am on Sunday. You can also listen live to every Emeralds game on 95.3fm the Score.
