Norfolk Tides News Release
Norfolk got a strong effort from four relievers, but the Tides were edged by Louisville 2-1 in front of a season-high 10,063 fans Saturday night at Harbor Park.
The Tides were forced to have Daniel McCutchen make a spot start, as Norfolk's previously scheduled starter Jake Arrieta had been recalled to Baltimore Friday. McCutchen (0-1) took the loss despite allowing two runs - one earned - in a season-high 4.1 innings. He gave up an unearned run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Jason Donald before being charged with a run in the fifth when Billy Hamilton scored on a single by Josh Fellhauer off of Mike Belfiore.
McCutchen, Belfiore, Manny Delcarmen and Jairo Asencio combined to strike out nine Louisville batters without issuing a walk. Six of those strikeouts came by way of Belfiore, who struck out the side in both the sixth and seventh innings.
The Tides plated their only run of the contest in the fifth frame, as Brandon Wood led off the inning with an infield single before scoring on an opposite field single by L.J. Hoes. The single by Hoes extended his hitting streak to seven games, over which he has hit .521 (12-for-23) with two home runs, six RBI and nine walks.
Greg Reynolds (8-0) earned the win for Louisville after yielding one run on eight hits in six innings of work. Reynolds is now tied for the league lead in wins while his 2.45 ERA is second in the IL.
The two clubs will wrap up their four-game series Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park, with first pitch set for 1:05 pm. Zach Britton (3-2, 3.28) will take the mound for Norfolk, while Louisville will counter with RHP Chad Reineke (5-3, 3.76).
Notes: The announced crowd of 10,063 was a Harbor Park season-high...Buck Britton's sixth inning single extended his hitting streak to 11 games...Louisville's Billy Hamilton swiped his 42nd base in the contest, and he has more steals than Norfolk's entire team (31)...For Father's Day on Sunday, fans will be allowed to play catch on the field following the game, courtesy of the Virginia Department of Social Services.
