Syracuse Mets News Release
The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, dropped game two of a four-game set to the Toledo Mud Hens, 7-6, on Friday . Zach Walters tallied two home runs in the loss for Syracuse.
Toledo (28-41) kicked off the scoring in the second inning. Ramon Cabrera came to the plate with runners on second and third base and two outs. He hit a line-drive single into center field to give the Mud Hens a 2-0 lead.
Toledo extended that lead in the third inning. Danny Dorn came up with two outs and runners on first and second base. He hit a double to center field to score both runs and the Mud Hens went up 4-0.
But in the bottom of the fourth inning, Syracuse (27-38) started to come back. With Danny Espinosa on first base and one out, Tyler Moore lifted a home run over the left-field wall to cut the deficit in half, 4-2. Following a double by Mike Costanzo, Zach Walters hit a home run to right field and the Chiefs tied the game, 4-4.
The score was tied until the seventh inning when Walters untied it. He hit the first pitch of the frame to left field for his second home run of the game and Syracuse took its first lead, 5-4.
Toledo got the lead back in the eighth inning. With Mike Cervenak and Cabrera on base and two outs, Argenis Diaz doubled to right field. Both runners scored and Toledo went up 6-5.
The Mud Hens grabbed one more run in the ninth inning. With the bases loaded, Ben Guez worked a walk and Toledo took a 7-5 lead.
Syracuse rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning. With Walters on second base, Chris Rahl doubled to left field to cut the deficit to one. A few batters later, Will Rhymes came to the plate with two outs and the go-ahead run on second base. However, Toledo pitcher Bruce Rondon got Rhymes to strike out looking to end the game.
Syracuse and Toledo play game three of their four-game set on Saturday at 7:00 . The game will be the second fireworks night of the season. The Chiefs send right-hander Jeff Mandel to the bump, while right-hander Shawn Hill goes for the Mud Hens.
