Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA-On the heels of a 3-0 shutout victory the day before, Inland Empire 66ers (33-31) pitcher Danny Reynolds went a season long eight innings for a second straight 3-0 victory Monday in the series opener against the Stockton Ports (35-29). The win coupled with a loss by Lancaster puts the 66ers two games out of first with six to play in the 1st half of the season.

Danny Reynolds had struggled, losing his previous five starts entering his game against the Ports, but armed with a new grip for his changeup the right hander put together his best start of the season.

Reynolds did not allow a hit until the 4th inning, and after permitting one hit he retired the next 10 batters in order. His eight innings pitched established a new season high for the 66ers pitching staff. At the plate the 66ers got plenty of help from the Ports defense. A dropped third out in right field resulted in two runs scoring for the 66ers in the 3rd inning. But Inland Empire would have had enough even without the mistake when Eric Stamets found his way home in the 6th on a sacrifice fly by Michael Snyder. The RBI was Snyder's 100th of his professional career.

The 66ers got a scare in the 9th when the Ports brought the tying run to the plate with nobody out after an error and a walk. But Eric Cendejas settled things down and ended the night with a strikeout to secure his first save of the season and the 66ers 33rd win of the year.

Inland Empire will try to make it four consecutive wins when they battle Stockton on Tuesday at San Manuel Stadium. VWC Builders presents Two Dollar Tuesday at the stadium, including two dollar deals on hot dogs, soda, popcorn, parking and tickets.
