Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - The Lake Elsinore Storm erased an early deficit and prevented Rancho Cucamonga from winning a third straight game on their current road trip, rallying for a 9-5 win over the Quakes on Monday night at The Diamond.
One day after scoring 17 runs, the Quakes' offense looked like it would put up some more monstrous numbers, but after two first-inning runs, tallied just three times and couldn't keep up with a Storm offense that put a nine-spot on the scoreboard.
Noel Cuevas tripled home Darnell Sweeney and then scored on Pratt Maynard's two-out hit, as the Quakes grabbed an early 2-0 lead over Storm starter Colin Rea.
Quakes' starter James Campbell couldn't hold the lead though, as he allowed three in the bottom of the first and was chased after giving up four in the second, as the Storm built a 7-2 advantage.
Rancho got a run back in the third, as O'Koyea Dickson's two-out single plated a run to make it 7-3. Jonathan Garcia opened the fourth with his team-leading 14th homer of the year, bringing the Quakes to within three at 7-4.
That's as close as they'd get though, as the Storm got a run off Raydel Sanchez in the fourth and a solo homer off the bat of Duanel Jones in the seventh, taking a 9-4 lead.
The Quakes closed the scoring in the eighth, as Chris Jacobs' sac fly produced Dickson to make it 9-5.
Storm reliever Brandon Alger (2-7) picked up the win with three innings of scoreless relief.
Austin Hedges had a pair of two-run doubles off Campbell (1-4) over the first two innings to pace the Storm's ten-hit attack.
Rancho (30-34) will send Gustavo Gomez (1-2) to the mound on Tuesday morning at 11:05am, while the Storm will counter with Trevor Holder (1-2) in the early-morning contest at The Diamond.
After the conclusion of this seven-game road trip, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Thursday, June 13th, taking on the Stockton Ports for a four-game series. Thursday night is another Thirsty Thursday, with $2 16-oz domestic beers and $2 24-oz Pepsi products. Game time is 7:05pm and tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field. Go Quakes!
