The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (29-16), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, play a double-header tonight with the Kansas City Royals' Carolina League affiliate, the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Alec Asher (4-2, 2.70) will oppose Kyle Smith (2-1, 2.36) in game one; righty Joe Van Meter (0-1, 2.25) will be opposed by lefty Sam Selman (2-3, 5.35) in game two. First pitch is on tap for 6:05 p.m. at TicketReturn.com Field. The two teams will play a pair of seven-inning games.

Jon Edwards was activated from the disabled list on Thursday; a new roster is attached. The Pelicans active roster climbs from 24 up to the league maximum of 25 players.

-- OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are in their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The team has won more than 1,000 regular season games in the last 15 seasons.

LAST SERIES ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans won their second straight one-run game Wednesday with a 3-2 series-clinching win against the Carolina Mudcats. The Pelicans and Mudcats did not play Thursday's finale due to inclement weather. The two team's will make that game up on Saturday, June 15th as part of a double-header. The Pelicans have won 11 straight home games and are now 18-4 at home. Home field - The Pelicans own the best home winning percentage (.818) in all of minor league baseball. The Cedar Rapids Kernels (17-4, .809) Indianapolis Indians (20-5, .800) and Visalia Rawhide (19-5, .792) are close behind.

CAREER OUTING ... Jerad Eickhoff worked a career-best eight innings in Wednesday's 3-2 win against the Mudcats. He attempted the complete game but was taken out after back-to-back singles in the ninth. It was the longest outing from a Pelican since Kyle Hendricks went eight innings in a winning effort against Salem on July 2, 2012. The Pelicans have had one nine-inning complete game since the beginning of the last season - Hendricks went the distance to beat Lynchburg on June 27, 2012.

STREAKING ... Patrick Cantwell's 10-game hitting streak is the longest in the Carolina League. Lynchburg's David Rohm's 12-game streak recently came to an end. Myrtle Beach's Odubel Herrera led the league with a 22-game spurt last season.

COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back postseasons in 2011 and 2012. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.
