Jackson Generals News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - After taking game one, the Generals (20-25) fell 2-1 to the Montgomery Biscuits (23-24) in game two of the series Friday night. The Generals out-hit an opponent for the 11th time this year, in a losing effort. Montgomery improved to 12-2 in one-run games while Jackson fell to 6-15 in one-run affairs.
For the second time this year, Generals' left fielder Leon Landry (1-4, HR) led the game off with a solo home run to right. The home run was his fourth of the year. Jackson jumped out to the 1-0 lead.
Trouble arose for the Elias in third. After back-to-back walks, Robi Estrada sacrificed both runners over and then Kevin Kiermaier singled up the middle to even the score. One Biscuit later, Shawn O'Malley lined a single up the middle to give the Biscuits a 2-1 edge after three innings. The third inning tally would hold to be the final.
Jackson had a plenty of chances to cash in base runners, but failed to do so by stranding six runners on base.
Generals' center fielder James Jones (2-4) and second basemen Jack Marder (2-4) paced the Generals offensively in the contest.
Except for the third inning, Generals' starter Roenis Elias (L, 2-4, 6.2,6,2,2,3,8,0) tossed a terrific outing, but endured the loss. Elias struck out a season high eight batters in the game. Montgomery's Jacob Thompson threw seven innings, struck out four and gave up a solo shot to pick up the win.
The series continues Saturday at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery for game three. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CST. The Generals will send RHP Chance Ruffin (1-2, 2.87) to the mound for his ninth start of the season. Montgomery will start RHP Merrill Kelly (3-4, 3.81). The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN Radio, TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
