
Shorebirds Score Three in Ninth to Top Grasshoppers

Greensboro, NC - The Delmarva Shorebirds (22-24) scored three runs in the ninth inning to come from behind to defeat the Greensboro Grasshoppers (18-28) 4-3 on Friday night at NewBridge Bank Park. The Shorebirds have won three games in a row for the first time in May.
The Shorebirds took an early lead in the second. Wynston Sawyer blasted a solo home run to left field, his first of the season.
Shorebirds starter Brady Wager was outstanding over six scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, one in the first and one in the sixth inning. Wager retired 11 straight batters between the end of the second and beginning of the sixth inning.
In the seventh, Miguel Chalas entered for Wager. Viosergy Rosa walked and Chalas hit Jesus Solarzano to put runners at first and second. Then, Matt Juengel hit an RBI single to right-center field to tie the game at 1-1. Cameron Flynn followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to score Solarzano.
After going scoreless between the third and eighth innings, the Shorebirds broke through in the ninth against Greensboro closer Blake Logan. Sawyer reached on a lead off walk. Then, Boss and Hutter hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. Gregory Lorenzo hit a hard grounder through the right side of the infield to tie the game at 2-2. Roderick Bernadina followed with a two-out single to right field to give the Shorebirds a 4-2 lead.
Greensboro battled back against Shorebirds closer Matt Price in the bottom of the ninth. They loaded the bases with one out. Mike Vaughn hit a single in the infield to score Solarzano to trim the gap to 4-3. With the bases loaded, Balog fielded a soft chopper to first and forced out Juengel at the plate for the second out. Then, Main grounded out to third to end the game.
The Shorebirds and Grasshoppers play game three of the series on Saturday, May 25 at 7:00pm. LHP Josh Hader is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
