Otters Begin Memorial Day Weekend Series at Bosse Field

LOOK BACK AT LAST GAME: The Evansville Otters swept a doubleheader at the Tra- verse City Beach Bums on Thursday, winning the first game 6-5 and the second game 4-1. First baseman Nick Schwaner had four hits in the opening game includ- ing a two run home run. The Otters led 6-1 and held off a late Traverse City seventh inning rally for the victory. Evansville also won the second game with timely hitting as designated hit- ter John Nester hit a two-run double. The Otters starting pitcher Matt Crim allowed just one run over 5.0 innings as relievers Coty Saranthus and Ryan Zamor- sky pitched two hitless and scoreless innings to complete the doubleheader sweep.

DOUBLEHEADER DANDYS: The Evansville Otters have fared very well in doubleheaders recently. Compared to most teams that split doubleheaders, Evansville is now 12-2 in the last two seasons in doubleheader games. They were a league-best 10-2 in doubleheaders in 2012.

WELCOME BACK: Outfielder John Schultz returned from a thumb injury to play center field in both games of the doubleheader yesterday. After missing the three previous games, Schultz was 3-for-7 in he pair of games with a walk and two runs batted in.

WINDY CITY WATCH: The Windy City Thunderbolts have a new manager this season in Ron Biga. The Thunderbolts begin the year on a 10-game roadtrip. Windy City lost their first three games before splitting their last four. The team is collectively hitting .235. The Thunderbolts hold a 4.25 earned run average and have a .964 fielding percentage.
