Last time out

The Gateway Grizzlies jumped on Joliet starter Evan Anundsen early with a couple of home runs and never looked back as they prevailed by a score of 8-1 to take the series from the Slammers. First baseman Jon Myers hit a solo home run to make it a 1-0 ballgame. In the bottom of the third the Grizzlies would touch-up Anundsen for three more runs. Michael Pair led off with a home run and Jonathan Johnson would follow with a single. Chris McClendon drove Johnson home on a RBI double and Jose Flores would follow McClendon by driving him home with an RBI double. The Grizzlies would add three more runs, one in the fourth and two more coming in the fifth to make it a 7-0 ballgame. Joliet would load the bases in the eighth inning but could only bring home one run on a bases-loaded walk to Kyle Maunus. Alex Guthrie homered in the bottom half of the eighth to complete the scoring.

For Starters...

Chuck Lofgren gets the start tonight for Joliet. He is coming off a very strong outing against the Traverse City Beach Bums last Saturday night where he went six and two thirds innings while only allowing two runs on five hits. Lofgren, 27, was a fourth round selection of the Cleveland Indians in the 2004 MLB draft out of Serra High School in San Mateo, California. Lofgren's decorated professional career includes being named the starting pitcher for the 2006 Carolina League All-Star Game. Lofgren followed that up by being named to the United States team for the 2007 All-Star Futures Game. The United States roster that year also included the likes of Clayton Kershaw, Matt Garza and Justin Upton.

He pitched for the Cleveland organization from 2004-2009, the Milwaukee organization from 2009-2010 and the San Francisco organization from 2010-2011. Last season, Lofgren pitched for the Amarillo Sox of the American Association. Most recently, he was with the Brisbane Bandits of the Australian Baseball League. Lofgren has appeared in a total of 47 games at the Triple-A level during his professional career.

May days...

They gone!

A new era...

The Slammers enter the 2013 campaign with an entirely new coaching staff and an almost completely new roster. Manager Mike Breyman enters his first year as the team's skipper while Eric Coleman and Dave Garcia will serve as the team's new pitching and hitting coaches respectively. All three have experience coaching in the Frontier League and Breyman is a former Frontier League Coach of the Year. Coleman has managerial experience in the league with Oakland County. Meanwhile, only six players remain from the 2012 team (Ben Hewett, who played the first part of the year with Joliet, Kyle Maunus, Chase Doremus, Jacob Sanchez, Mike Barsotti and David Christensen). Only Maunus and Hewett remain from the 2011 championship squad.

Transactions Wire...

The Slammers placed INF Jerod Yakubik on the 7-Day DL today with a foot injury and activated OF David Christensen from the 7-Day DL.
