Greensboro Avoids Sweep with 6-2 Victory Over Hagerstown

HAGERSTOWN, M.D. - The Hagerstown Suns (26-16) dropped the final game of their three game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (18-26) on Wednesday by a score of 6-2. Despite the loss the Suns have still won seven straight series.

Greensboro did most of their damage in the third inning. With the bases loaded LF Cody Keefer scored on SS Stephen Perez's throwing error. Shortstop Anthony Gomez then hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield which scored catcher Mike Vaughn. A Kylin Turnbull wild pitch allowed 2B Alfredo Lopez to score to make it 3-0 Grasshoppers. Back-to-back doubles by DH Viosergy Rosa and RF Jesus Solorzano each brought home one run to give Greensboro a 5-0 lead.

The Suns got two back in the fourth inning. Designated hitter Wander Ramos' hit an infield single which brought home 1B Shawn Pleffner to make it a 5-1 game. Ramos later came home on an RBI groundout by CF Will-Piwnica-Worms. The RBI was Worms 8th of the season.

The Grasshoppers extended their lead in sixth inning when CF Michael Main led off the inning with a solo home run to left field, his first of the season. This made the score 6-2 and would end up being the final run scored.

RHP Ramon Del Orbe (1-3) earned the win for Greensboro. Del Orbe worked five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one. LHP Kylin Turnbull (2-2) suffered the loss for Hagerstown. Turnbull went four innings, giving up five runs on five hits and one walk while striking out one.

The Suns will begin a four game weekend series against the Lexington Legends on Thursday, May 23. RHP Ivan Pineyro (3-2) will start for Hagerstown, making his ninth start of season. LHP Daniel Stumpf (3-1) will take the mound for Lexington, making his eighth start of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
