Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - A 3-for-4 night from Angelo Songco and six strong innings from starter Lindsey Caughel supplied the Quakes with all they needed as Rancho avoided a four-game sweep with an 8-3 victory over the visiting San Jose Giants at LoanMart Field on Saturday night.
The 2011 Quakes MVP singled twice and tripled in his four-RBI performance in front of a sellout crowd of 5,311.
Songco's two-run triple down the right field line in the bottom of the third made it 4-0 in favor of the Quakes, but his two-RBI base knock in the seventh inning made it 7-1 and put the game on ice. The four RBIs bring Songco's season total to 30, putting him atop the team in the category.
Caughel (W, 1-1) was solid in his second start with the Quakes, allowing just one earned run over six innings of work. Caughel struck out four, walked none and earned his first victory as a Quake.
O'Koyea Dickson mirrored Songco with a 3-for-4 night of his own with an RBI and three runs scored.
Ryan Mount continued his hot streak with a 2-for-3 night at the plate, cashing in a pair of RBIs along the way. Mount upped his season batting average to .336, good for fourth-best in the California League.
San Jose starter Clayton Blackburn took the brunt of the damage for the Giants, allowing five earned runs on six hits over four innings. It marked the second time this season the Quakes scored five runs against Blackburn (five runs -- three earned -- in a May 6 loss).
The win brings the Quakes even in the standings at 21-21 on the season, and they will hit the road for a three-game set with the Lancaster JetHawks at The Hangar beginning on Sunday afternoon. Left-hander Jarret Martin (1-5, 4.59 ERA) will take the mound for Rancho, while Brady Rodgers (3-1, 4.08 ERA) toes the rubber for Lancaster.
