Published on May 18, 2013 under Southern League (SL1)
Birmingham Barons News Release
After winning the first game 2-1 on solo homers by Mike Blanke and Trayce Thompson, Marcus Semien picked up right where they left off with a solo shot of his own in the first as the Barons too an early 1-0 lead. The lead would double in the second on an RBI base hit by Cody Puckett.
However, the lead would be short lived as the Generals scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning against spot-starter Wes Whisler (0-2, 7.16) and Jacob Petricka.
The Barons finished with nine hits, including two by Puckett, but couldn't mount a serious rally as the Generals handed the Barons their fifth loss in the last seven games.
The Barons will look to even the series tomorrow night as RHP Nick McCully (2-1, 4.50) takes the hill against RHP Taijuan Walker (3-3, 2.09). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CDT.
