Birmingham Barons News Release
In game one of a scheduled double-header against the Jackson Generals, RHP Erik Johnson (3-2, 2.44) tossed 6.1 solid innings as the Barons snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win at Generals Park.
Both Barons' runs were scored on solo homers as Michael Blanke (third inning) and Trayce Thompson (fourth inning) against Jackson starter Chance Ruffin (1-2, 2.87). The home runs were the first extra-base hits for the Barons in the last three games.
The lone blemish against Johnson came in the 7th inning on a solo home run by Vinnie Catricala. A Julio Morban double knocked Johnson from the game after 6.1 innings but reliever Ryan Kussmaul preserved the win by recording the final two outs of the game including a strikeout of the final batter with the tying run at third base. The save was Kussmaul's fourth of the season.
The win pushed the Barons to 27-15 on the season while Jackson fell to 17-23.
