
Surging Smokies Win Third Straight

CHATTANOOGA, TN . - Arismendy Alcantara went 3-for-4 with a home run as the Tennessee Smokies won their third straight game with a 7-5 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts. The Smokies are now 6-1 on their ten-game road trip.
Trailing 7-4 entering the bottom of the 9th, the Lookouts mounted a rally against Smokies reliever Brian Schlitter. C.J. Retherford drove home a run with an RBI single to get within two, but Blake Smith struck out with the tying run on second base to end the game.
Dallas Beeler (4-2) picked up the win for the Smokies pitching six innings allowing three runs, two of them earned, on four hits. Chris Reed (1-5) took the loss allowing five runs, three earned, in five innings of work.
Tennessee (22-19) wasted no time getting to MLB rehabber Scott Elbert with a run in the first. Matt Szczur led off with a single and came around to score the game's first run on an RBI double by Ronald Torreyes.
Yasiel Puig tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI groundout to shortstop that scored Joc Pederson.
The Smokies regained the lead in the top of the second inning with two more runs. With one out, Anthony Giansanti plated Jonathan Mota with an RBI triple to make it 2-1. Giansanti came into score two batters later on an RBI double by Szczur.
Chattanooga (16-26) answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Smith hit a two-run double to left field that scored Pederson and Puig and tied the game at 3-3.
After regaining the lead 4-3 in the 6th, the Smokies added some insurance runs in the 7th. Szczur and Torreyes reached to start the inning and Alcantara brought home Szczur with an RBI double. Christian Villanueva made it 6-3 two batters later with an RBI single.
The Lookouts scored a run in the bottom of the 8th with an RBI infield single by Brian Cavazos-Galvez, but Alcantara got the run right back in the top of the 9th with a solo home run, his fifth of the season.
The Smokies and Lookouts will continue their five-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2:15 ET when Tennessee sends right-hander Alberto Cabrera (3-1, 3.86) to the mound against Chattanooga righty Andres Santiago (2-4, 5.17) at AT&T Field.
