Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
Three Chattanooga Lookouts' pitchers -- including Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Scott Elbert, in town on rehab -- were roughed up for 15 hits at AT&T Field Saturday night as the Tennessee Smokies won the second game of their five-gave set, 7-5.
Along with Los Angeles second baseman Mark Ellis, Elbert is putting the final touches on his rehab -- in his case, a return from two elbow surgeries. He worked the first inning of Saturday's game and allowed a run on two hits. Ellis, playing his second game with the Lookouts, had four plate appearances Saturday and had a walk, run scored and two strikeouts.
Most of the Smokies damage was done against Chris Reed, who falls to 1-5 on the season. He allowed nine hits and five runs (three earned) in his five-inning stint. Smokies leadoff hitter Matt Szczur was the principal table setter, going 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. But outfielder Anthony Giansanti, who has been with the Smokies less than two weeks, had a double, triple, RBI and run scored. But the man who cleared the table was light-hitting shortstop Arismendy Alcantara, as the 160-pound switch-hitter had two doubles and his fifth homer good for two RBIs
Five Smokies had multi-hit games Saturday.
For Chattanooga (16-25), Joc Peterson held is place in the batting chase (.342) with a 1-for-4 night, scoring twice. Blake Smith had a two-run double in the third inning, Brian Cavazos-Galvez added an RBI pinch-hit single and B.J. Retherford drove in the club's fifth run in the ninth to give the Lookouts a fighting chance.
But Tennessee closer Brian Schlitter got Blake Smith to take a called third strike with the tying runs in scoring position for his second save.
The series resumes Sunday afternoon at 2:15 with Andres Santiago (2-4) on the mound for Chattanooga.
