Frederick Keys News Release
LYNCHBURG, VA - A night after the Keys finished with just three hits, Frederick put up 11 runs on the board on 18 hits and defeated the Hillcats, 11-7, in the rubbermatch of their three-game series. Sammie Starr, Christian Walker, and Allan de San Miguel all picked three hits on the night and everyone in the Keys lineup scored at least one run. LHP Trent Howard notched his second win of the season out of the bullpen.
Facing RHP James Hoyt, the Keys plated two runs in the top runs in the first inning without much swinging. Sammie Starr led off the inning with a single to center. Hoyt then walked the bases loaded. Hoyt still could not find the strike zone and walked Nicky Delmonico and Allan de San Miguel to bring in the game's first two runs.
Frederick plated a run on Christian Walker infield RBI single in the top of the second but the Hillcats tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the second. Lynchburg plated one run in the third and fourth and led 5-3 after four innings.
LHP Tim Berry exited Thursday night's game after four innings of work. He allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits while striking out four and walking four. Berry did not factor in the decision.
Lynchburg starter, James Hoyt, was relieved in the fifth inning and the Keys' bats came alive against Caleb Brewer. With two outs in the fifth, Delvi Cid hit a two-run double to left field. Johnny Ruettiger followed up with a RBI single to left.
Up 6-5, the Keys would not relinquish the lead again. Frederick plated a run in the sixth, two in the seventh, one in the eighth, and another in the ninth en route to the victory.
Nicky Delmonico, Allan de San Miguel, and Delvi Cid all finished the night with two RBI.
Out of the bullpen, Trent Howard (2-0) picked up the win. He allowed one run on four hits over 2.1 innings of work. Caleb Brewer (0-1) got the lost for Lynchburg.
The Keys will visit the Salem Red Sox on Friday night for the start of a three-game series. RHP Zach Petersime (1-3, 7.06) will take the hill for the Frederick while the Red Sox will counter with RHP Kyle Stroup (1-2, 4.18). First pitch from Salem, VA is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage on 1450 AM set to begin at 6:30 p.m. with the Frederick Gorilla Pregame Show.
