Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MAY 16, 2013)- The Winston-Salem Dash celebrated the one millionth fan in the history of BB&T Ballpark Thursday night, but the Myrtle Beach Pelicans did their best to put a damper on the celebrations, taking the rubber match of the series 12-3.
Alisa Keegan was the lucky fan to be chosen tonight to participate in the contest on the field to celebrate the one millionth fan in the park's history. After pulling four envelopes that contained the two Dash tickets for life, one for the million dollars and one for the two-year lease on a vehicle from Flow Auto, Alisa pulled her fifth ticket envelope, giving her Winston-Salem Dash tickets for life.
The Pelicans (26-14) started their offensive onslaught right away, as the first four batters to face Chris Beck (2-6) all picked up hits. Myrtle Beach would tally three in that inning, and the Dash (18-21) would never really threaten the lead.
Leading 4-1 in the sixth, Myrtle Beach would start to hammer the Dash bullpen that kept them off the score sheet for six and two-thirds innings in Wednesday night's contest. A two-run sixth made it 6-1, but the seventh inning was the big frame, as the Pelicans touched up the duo of Jeremy Erben and J.R. Ballinger four five runs to put the game beyond all doubt.
The Winston offense was kept quiet for most of the night by Myrtle Beach starter Jerad Eickhoff (3-2) who gave up just one run on four hits in six innings of work. The only run he gave up came in the second inning on an RBI single by Grant Buckner.
Winston-Salem's other two RBIs went to David Herbek and Mark Haddow who each drove in a run with a single.
The Dash continue their six-game homestand Friday night at BB&T Ballpark as they welcome in the Potomac Nationals for the first of a three-game set. Righty Ryan Buch (first start) will toe the rubber for Winston-Salem, while Potomac will counter with fellow righty, Blake Schwartz (3-1, 0.82 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:45 with the Pregame Dash and first pitch is set for 7.
Friday is another Fireworks Friday at BB&T Ballpark so make sure to stick around for the show after the game. For tickets to any Dash home game, visit wsdash.com.
