Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Colorado Springs Sky Sox'(21-14) fell behind early, 4-0, and lost to the Omaha Storm Chasers (19-16), 14-4, to drop the second game of the four-game series at Security Service Field on Mother's Day.
For the second straight day the Sky Sox found themselves in a four-run deficit after the first two innings. The team managed to cut the lead down to two in the third inning when Lars Davis and Corey Dickerson scored on groundouts by DJ LeMahieu and Ryan Wheeler. After allowing two runs, Storm Chaser's starting pitcher Ryan Verdugo (W, 2-2) settled down and only allowed one more run .
Omaha's bats continued to be busy in the fourth and fifth inning as they tacked on three more runs off of Sox starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood (L,2-1). Chatwood only went five innings and gave up a season-high seven earned runs.
A two-run home run by Charlie Culberson in the seventh inning brought Colorado Springs within four runs, but the Storm Chasers had a six-run ninth inning to close out the Sky Sox and win their 19th game of the season. Tomorrow the Sox will look to retake the series lead when newly acquired pitcher and right-hander Drew Carpenter (1-4, 7.33) starts against left-hander Francisley Bueno (1-0, 2.41) at 6:35 MT.
Sky Sox Notes: DJ LeMahieu recorded an RBI, but finished the day 0-for-5 which ends his hit streak at a season-high 20 games.
