Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. -- Despite a promising start, the Pawtucket Red Sox saw their six-game winning streak end Sunday at Charlotte, where the Knights rallied for a 6-4 victory in front of 3,144.
Pawtucket jumped to a first inning lead, after leadoff man Justin Henry reached second on a single and error. Following a sacrifice bunt by Jose Iglesias, Brandon Snyder singled home Henry for a 1-0 advantage off lefty John Danks. Dan Butler's double brought home Snyder, before Danks ended the inning by stranding a pair of runners.
Still rebounding from shoulder surgery last August, Danks (W, 1-0), who has a 57-60 lifetime record in the majors, allowed only an unearned run thereafter. He totaled six innings, with five strikeouts and 101 pitches overall.
His younger brother, Jordan Danks, evened the score in Charlotte's first turn at the plate. Pawtucket starter Alfredo Aceves (L, 2-1) walked the first two batters, setting up the younger Danks for a two-run single to tie it at 2-2.
The Knights forged ahead in the last of the fourth on Seth Loman's leadoff home run. It marked their first advantage in three days vs. the PawSox, after scoring just one run on five hits Friday and Saturday.
Their lead was short lived. Hentry doubled in the fifth, stole third and scored on an error, tying the contest, 3-3.
But in the bottom half of the inning, three straight hits, including an RBI double by Lars Anderson and run-scoring single by Jordan Danks, put Charlotte back on top, 5-3.
The Knights added an unearned run charged to Oscar Villareal, who was forced to leave with an injury in the sixth. Steve Tolleson doubled and, after Chris Carpenter replaced Villareal, scored on an error.
Trailing 6-3, Pawtucket put the first two men on base in the ninth, thanks to singles by Jonathan Diaz and Ryan Dent off the Knights' closer Ramon Troncoso. Diaz took third on Jeremy Hazelbaker's fielder's choice grounder. Hazelbaker then stole second, forcing an errant throw to score Diaz.
But Troncoso (S, 4) induced a pair of groundouts to end the game, as well as the PawSox winning streak.
NOTES: The PawSox are 23-14 overall and 6-1 on their current trip, which ends Monday at 7:15 p.m....Boston lefty Franklin Morales is scheduled to make an injury rehab start for Pawtucket, with ex-Knight Terry Doyle (3-2, 2.56) expected to relieve him...Charlotte is slated to start former PawSox right-hander Zach Stewart (0-4, 4.66)...Another ex-Pawtucker pitcher, Tony Pena Jr., completed two perfect innings in middle relief on Sunday.
