Gwinnett Stripers News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves (12-22) offense continued to struggle on Wednesday night as they were held to one run by the Pawtucket Red Sox (20-13) in a 4-1 loss at Coolray Field. Gwinnett has now dropped 11-straight games, including the first three of the four-game set with Pawtucket.

G-Braves starter Yohan Flande (L, 1-3) struggled out of the gate, giving up runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings.

In the first, the PawSox connected for three hits to score their first run of the game. Jonathan Diaz and Jose Iglesias hit back-to-back singles to start the frame. After a strikeout, Mark Hamilton delivered an RBI single, making it 1-0.

Pawtucket added runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Ronald Bermudez doubled to start the inning and scored on an RBI single by Diaz, while in the fifth, Bermudez drove in two with an RBI single to left.

After being held scoreless by Terry Doyle (W, 3-2) over 6.0 innings, the G-Braves put together a two-out rally to score in the seventh inning. Paul Janish reached on an infield single, Matt Pagnozzi singled and Alden Carrithers laced a double down the left field to score Janish from second, cutting the lead to 4-1. Todd Cunningham loaded the bases with a walk, but Tyler Pastornicky hit into an inning-ending fielder's choice.

That would be as close as the G-Braves would get, as they did not have another runner reach base the rest of the way.

The Gwinnett bullpen starred on Wednesday night, as four relievers combined to strike out seven over 4.0 scoreless innings. Right-hander Luis Ayala made his first appearance since being put on the disabled by the Atlanta Braves on April 25, tossing a perfect sixth inning in his first rehab action. Dusty Hughes, Wirfin Obispo and Cory Rasmus all added scoreless innings.

Carrithers led the way, going 2-for-3 and driving in the lone run for the G-Braves. For Carrithers, it was his fourth-straight game driving in at least one run. Joey Terdoslavich added a 2-for-4 effort, his team-leading 16th multi-hit game.

Bermudez led the PawSox, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

The Gwinnett Braves conclude the series against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Thursday morning, first pitch at Coolray Field scheduled for 10:35 AM. Right-hander Roman Colon (0-1, 4.32) is scheduled to start for the G-Braves against right-hander Steven Wright (1-1, 1.69) of the Red Sox. Listen to the game on 1240 AM ESPN Radio with Dave Lezotte calling the play-by-play.

Thursday is "Belk Education Day" at Coolray Field. Students from all over the county will enjoy a day of learning, excitement and G-Braves baseball, sponsored by Belk.
