York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.): The York Revolution's Friday, May 17 game had already been designated "Emergency Responder Night" at Sovereign Bank Stadium. As an addition to that evening's program, the organization will dedicate the game to the memory of Loganville Fire Chief Rodney Miller, who was killed in the line of duty on Saturday, April 27, and respond to his death in the best way possible - by using it as an opportunity to help prevent other such tragedies.

At the game itself, the goal of the evening will be to raise money to help Miller's family and fire company. York Revolution President & General Manger Eric Menzer remarked that "at the time of a tragedy like this, money is certainly not a substitute, but it can be an expression of compassion and support, and it can help a family and a community cope and memorialize the person they have lost. We want to do what we can to help with that." Fans may donate at designated tables on the stadium concourse once gates open and throughout the game.

Between now and the game itself, the Revs have teamed-up with York County's Center for Traffic Safety and will donate $5.00 of every individual May 17 game ticket sold to efforts to fight drunk driving in York County. Miller was struck by a drunk driver while directing traffic on I-83 following an accident. "Every accident like this is a tragedy," said Menzer. "Another way to respond is to use our platform and a resource to make it the last time this kind of thing happens here in York. I'd like nothing more than to give out the biggest check we've ever given away at this event if Yorkers respond. So, by coming to the game you're honoring emergency responders generally, Chief Miller and his company specifically, and helping to make sure it doesn't happen again."

Money donated through this program will support efforts to revive the "Community Forum Against Underage Drinking," a program that the Center had to bring to an end in 2010 after 15 years due to a lack of funding. Wayne Harper, director of the Center, commented that "fighting drunk driving needs to start early. If we can revive this program through this effort, then it will be a ray of light coming out of this tragedy." President Commissioner Steve Chronister urged county residents to support he evening. "What a great venue and opportunity for Yorkers to show their support for Chief Miller's family," said Chronister.

"Emergency Responder Night has become a tradition here at Sovereign Bank Stadium during the season, where we take time to honor folks like Chief Miller who put themselves at risk for us all the time," said Menzer. "It really just hits you in the gut where someone out helping other people in the middle of the night pays this kind of price, but we'll do our best to honor his memory and help his family," Menzer continued.

HealthSouth is the presenting sponsor of the night.
