York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution erased three separate deficits to force extras, but ultimately fell 7-4 in 14 innings to the Somerset Patriots in front of 4,539 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Monday afternoon. The Revs will look to bounce back on Tuesday evening, with three games remaining on their current 10-game homestand.
Innings-wise, the game tied the longest in franchise history, and was the longest in stadium history.
Somerset took a fourth inning lead on a sacrifice fly by Mike Wilson, and an RBI triple from Eddy Martinez-Esteve, going ahead 2-0 early in the game.
The Revs came back the first time with two in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on back-to-back RBI singles by Andres Perez and Brian Burgamy.
The Patriots re-took the lead in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Martinez-Esteve, but the Revs answered again as Tyler Graham knotted the score with his own single to right field.
Somerset broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh on an RBI single off the Arch Nemesis by Jake Fox, going in front 4-3. It was the final run allowed by Revs starter Brett Tomko, who worked seven innings for the third time in four starts.
The Revs came back once more in the bottom of the eighth. Jeff Fiorentino reached on a bloop double to lead off, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a bloop single by Graham.
Both bullpens were outstanding, keeping the score tied all the way into the 14th, when Bobby Stevens led off the inning with a home run to left, and two more would score on an error as an attempted inning-ending double play came unglued.
The Revs rallied again, loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the 14th, but Somerset closer Jon Hunton recorded the final two outs for his seventh save.
The Patriots out-hit the Revs 15-14 in the marathon game. York stranded 16 runners on base.
York 's Chris Cody (1-1, 3.06) will face lefty Graham Taylor (1-0, 3.71) in the second game of the series on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
