PGA Golfer Erik Compton to Meet & Greet Fans on Tuesday

(Fort Mill, SC) - The Charlotte Knights will host the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees) in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 30 with first pitch of game one scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and the Knights will welcome PGA Golfer Erik Compton to Knights Stadium to meet and greet fans, as well as throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

Compton, a two-time heart transplant recipient, will appear at Knights Stadium as part of the Knights Charitable Tuesday event, which features LifeShare Of The Carolinas as the night's charitable organization. The Miami, Florida native will throw out the first pitch of Tuesday's second game.

Compton's first heart transplant came in 1992, when he was 12, and his second transplant in 2008. For this, Compton was honored with the Ben Hogan Award in Augusta Georgia during the Masters in April 2009. He has also received the 2012 Babe Didrikson Zaharias Courage Award from the U.S. Sports Academy. In 2013, Compton was among many distinguished recipients of the Donate Life Champion Award. The award is given to role models in the sports community who have made a difference by inspiring others through their support for organ donation.

LifeShare Of The Carolinas is one of two organ procurement organizations and two eye banks operating in the state of North Carolina. In 2012, LifeShare Of The Carolinas recovered organs from 87 individuals. Since 1970, LifeShare Of The Carolinas has successfully coordinated organ transplants throughout southwestern North Carolina as the link between people who need life-saving transplants and the generous individuals who make second chances at life possible. Former New York Yankees farmhand Bobby Height will catch Compton's ceremonial first pitch. Height is also a heart transplant recipient.
