Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, Fla. - The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to steal an 8-7 win from the Hammerheads Saturday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
Down 7-6 with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Palm Beach catcher Adam Ehrlich hit a ground ball up the middle to Jupiter second baseman Noah Perio. Before Perio could step on second base and throw to first to attempt the game-ending double play, he misfielded the ball, allowing two runs to score and the game to end in the Cardinals' favor-on an error.
The two ninth-inning runs marked the game's fifth lead change.
Isaac Galloway went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and four RBI for the Hammerheads. Perio added two hits and scored a run.
Seven of the nine batters in Jupiter's lineup recorded at least one hit, including Austin Barnes, who extended his hitting streak to seven with a line drive single to center in the first inning. In his last seven games, Barnes is batting .428 (12-for-28).
The Cardinals pounded out 15 hits in the win, including a 4-for-4 effort from leadoff hitter Nick Longmire. Jonathan Rodriguez and David Popkins added three hits each.
LHP Justin Nicolino allowed four runs on nine hits in five innings for Jupiter. The four earned runs are the most a Hammerheads' starting pitcher has allowed in a game this season. In 22 starts, Hammerheads starters have amassed a sparkling 2.29 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.
Cardinals' pitchers induced 13 ground ball and four fly ball outs, including an eight-to-three ratio from starter LHP Kyle Hald, who allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks in 5.1 innings.
Palm Beach will hit the road Sunday to kick off a three-game series with the Daytona Cubs. Jupiter will remain at home to host a four-game set with the Dunedin Blue Jays starting Sunday at 1:05 p.m. RHP Josh Hodges will toe the rubber for the Hammerheads, opposite the Blue Jays' RHP Scott Copeland.
