Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 27, 2013) - The Fort Myers used a pair of runs in the final two innings to, literally, walk-off with a 2-1 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs to complete a three-game sweep on Saturday evening.

Facing Charlotte reliever Jacob Partridge in a 1-1 tie in the ninth inning, the Miracle lineup exhibited extreme patience. Miguel Sano led off with a walk. After Drew Leachman flew out to left, Kennys Vargas was issued a free pass by Partridge. Kyle Knudson then earned a walk on a full count pitch. Partridge rallied to strikeout Andy Leer, but struggled with his control against Angel Morales.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth, Morales took a 3-2 pitch down and in to register the fourth walk of the inning and deliver a 2-1 win.

Fort Myers trailed 1-0 going into the eighth inning after an impressive pitching performance by Stone Crab lefty Felipe Rivero. Shutting down the top offense in the Florida State League for six innings, Rivero allowed just one hit, walked three and struck out six.

Matt Summers started for the Miracle and went seven strong innings. Summers scattered five hits with three strikeouts and allowed just one run, but received a no decision.

Down a run, Fort Myers drew even in the eighth inning off Charlotte reliever Lenny Linsky. Matt Koch started the rally with a single to center field. Manager Doug Mientkiewicz inserted Stephen Wickens as a pinch runner. Wickens advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt laid down by Leer.

Morales tallied his first RBI of the night with a laced double into center field. Wickens raced home and the Miracle tied the game 1-1. Morales finished 1-for-2 and knocked in both Fort Myers runs.

Chad Rodgers pitched a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts and Cole Johnson (1-0) earned the win with a perfect ninth.

The Miracle (18-4) travel to Bright House Field to begin a four-game series with the Clearwater Threshers at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Fans can listen to every pitch on www.miraclebaseball.com. Adam MacDonald will host the Square 1 Burgers & Bar pregame show beginning at 12:45 p.m.
