Players of the Week

Pitcher- LHP, Nick Hernandez*, Clearwater ... 1 start- 1-0, 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 7 SO vs Brevard County... After missing the last two years with a shoulder injury, Hernandez picked up where he left off prior to injury; in 2010 he allowed 1 ER or less in six of his eight starts for Lakewood... On the year Hernandez is 2-0 in 3 starts with a sparkling 2.12 ERA (4 ER, 17.0 IP)... The young lefty has baseball in his blood; his father, Nicolas Hernandez, a catcher, was selected by the Brewers with the 8th overall pick in the 1978 draft... Furthermore, his Uncle is current MLB umpire Angel Hernandez... The 24-year-old Hernandez was selected in the 12th round of the 2009 draft out of the University of Tennessee.

Player- 1B, Art Charles, Lakewood ... Batted .423 (11-for-26) in 7 G with 5 R, 3 2B, HR, SB, 6 RBI and 2 BB... After beginning the season in a 2-for-24 (.083) funk, Charles has gone 16-for-41 (.390) to raise his average to .277 for the season... Charles has been a force with runners on in front of him hitting .375 (6-16, 10 RBI) with RISP and .500 (1-2, 4 RBI) with the bases loaded. The 22-year-old Charles was originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 20th round of the 2010 draft out of Bakersfield College... The Phillies acquired Charles via trade on 2/23/13 for RHP Michael Schwimer.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs- International League North Division...7-9, T-4th place... 3-4 for the week...

The Pigs concluded a road trip in which they took five of seven games from Syracuse and Pawtucket. The trips finale featured an 18-hit romp of Pawtucket where every IronPig starter had at least one hit. The Pigs fortune would turn as they came home to the friendly confines of Coca-Cola Park as they dropped the first three to Buffalo... The Pigs belted 10 HR on the week... 3B Cody Asche* hit .370 (10-27) and got back on track after a slow start... ... 2B Cesar Hernandez* hit safely in five of six games, and leads LHV with 21 hits this season... Justin De Fratus* (4.2 IP), Jacob Diekman* (5.1 IP) and Joe Savery* (3.0 IP) continued their hot start combining for 13.0 innings of scoreless relief... Savery, prior being called up to Philadelphia for a cup of coffee, had retired 21-consecutive batters at LHV... LHP Adam Morgan* had another good start, twirling five frames of two hit ball... LHP Cesar Jimenez, who began the season with a 9.2 IP scoreless streak, was needed for a spot start on 4/17 and threw 4.0 innings of perfection prior to allowing his first base runner.

Reading Fightin' Phillies- Eastern League Eastern Division...8-8, 4th place... 2-4 for the week

2B Albert Cartwright (.450, 9-20, 2 SB) had a hit in every game this week and as of print has an 11-game hitting streak which is the longest this season in the Eastern League... Cartwright leads Reading with eight multi-hit games on the year... SS Edgar Duran* (.346, 8-23) had a hit in seven-straight contests before going hitless on 4/21... Duran walked the Fightin' Phils off in extras on 4/16 with a single plating the winning run vs Harrisburg... 1B Jim Murphy* backed up his Player of the Week showing by hitting .300 (6-20) with 4 RBI and his third HR of the year... LHP Mauricio Robles excelled in relief with 4.0 IP of scoreless work allowing only a single base runner and striking out nine... RHP J.C. Ramirez was rewarded for his scoreless 7.0 IP with a trip north on US-222 to Lehigh Valley... LHP Jesse Biddle* seems poised for a big year after another solid start of 6.0 IP and eight strikeouts... RHP Brody Colvin (1-0, 3.97), nursing a strained groin, landed on the DL 4/21.

Clearwater Threshers- Florida State League North Division...8-9, T-3rd place... 3-4 for the week...

.346 team batting average 4/15-21... The Threshers knocked it all over Bright House Field on 4/16 vs Daytona tallying a FSL record 27 hits... The Threshers scored in every inning, while 3B Maikel Franco*, OF Cameron Perkins* and 2B Carlos Alonso* all tallied four hits... SS Jose Mojica was 5-for-5 and batted .583 (14-24, 5 R, 3 2B, 5 RBI) for the week... The Threshers lead the FSL with 42 doubles, while Franco (9) and OF Aaron Altherr* (8) are 1st and 2nd respectively in two-baggers... Franco batted .345 for the week (10-29) with 4 R, 3 RBI, 2 2B and 3 BB... Perkins hit .444 (12-27), with 5 R, 8 RBI and 3 2B... RHP Perci Garner* (2-0, 2.66 ERA on the year) mixed in another good start going 6.0, scattering three hits without allowing a run... RHP Ryan O'Sullivan, former 4th round selection of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who was the PTBNL in the Joe Blanton deal, has a 7.1 IP scoreless streak intact... He picked up his first SV as a professional 4/20 vs Brevard County.

Lakewood BlueClaws- South Atlantic League North Division...5-13, 7th place... 3-4 for the week...

Player of the Week honors went to 1B, Art Charles, who has shown raw power and an ability to get on base (.355 OBP)... Roman Quinn* swiped three bags during the week giving him nine on the year (4th in SAL)... OF Larry Greene* made his single-A debut and collected his first hit 4/20 vs Savannah... Greene has struggled so far at the plate with a 2-for-14 start, however has shown a penchant to get on base drawing three BB... Greene walked 41 times last season at Williamsport in 70 G with a. 373 OBP... Last year's first pick Shane Watson earned his first pro win with 5.0 IP of one-hit ball on 4/21 vs Savannah.
