Spinners to Honor UMass Lowell Hockey June 28

LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will join the community of Lowell in celebrating the UMass Lowell Riverhawks Hockey Program and Division I Coach of the Year Norm Bazin with a day in their honor as the team takes on the Vermont Lake Monsters Friday, June 28.
The Riverhawks galvanized the community, capturing the Hockey East regular season and post-season championships while earning their first ever trip to the Frozen Four. The Riverhawks were the Hockey East Champions and their accomplishments are a point of pride for all of Lowell, Spinners included.
"The Lowell community is such a tight-knit community," said Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "To have a peer have that kind of success in their sport, you only hope that it can carry over to the diamond for the start of Spinners season."
At the very least the celebration of their success will certainly carry into the early summer for the Spinners' UMass Lowell night. Coach Bazin, winner of the Spencer Penrose Division I Coach of the Year Award, will be on hand to throw out a ceremonial pitch and the Spinners will have a special pre-game tribute for the team's magical season.
"We, like many, were glued to the success of the Riverhawks during their incredible run to Pittsburgh for the Frozen Four," said Bawmann. "With our location, we feel a part of the campus community and are thrilled to be able to honor Coach Bazin for his leadership in bringing Lowell a champion."
In addition to honoring Coach Bazin during the June 28 game, the Spinners plan to honor the team as a whole at a late August game when students have returned to campus for the start of a new year.
"We really want to involve the student population in the celebration since this is truly their team," said Bawmann. "We look forward to inviting the students to a party they won't soon forget."
Tickets for the June 28 game are on-sale now and can be purchased online or by calling (978) 459-2255. Group Rates are still available for groups of 30 or more and the All-You-Can-Eat BBQ Gator Pit still has limited availability as well. The Spinners open their 2013 home schedule Wednesday, June 19 against the Connecticut Tigers.
