JUPITER, Fla. - Marcell Ozuna will be presented with a 2012 Minor League Rawlings Gold Glove AwardR before Thursday night's game between the Charlotte Stone Crabs and the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium.
Pat O'Conner, President and CEO of Minor League Baseball, will be on hand to present the trophy, modeled after the iconic award given to Major League Baseball's top defensive players during the 2013 season.
"Minor League Baseball is honored to team with Rawlings Sporting Goods to recognize the best-of-the-best fielders in our leagues with the Rawlings Gold Glove Award," said O'Conner. "The Rawlings Gold Glove Award is one of the few awards globally recognized in sports."
Ozuna was selected in October among qualifying players from the 10 domestic-based, full season Minor Leagues for his outstanding play on defense during the 2012 season.
The 21-year-old right fielder also made a difference with his bat last season, setting the team's single-season records for home runs (24) and RBI (95) while leading the Hammerheads to their first Florida State League Championship Series appearance.
Other 2012 Gold Glove AwardR winners include: pitcher Adam Warren (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre), catcher Josh Phegley (Charlotte), first baseman Hunter Morris (Huntsville), second baseman Ryan Cavan (Richmond), third baseman Joe Leonard (Mississippi), shortstop Eugenio Suarez (West Michigan), left fielder Derrick Robinson (Omaha) and center fielder Engel Beltre (Frisco).
