
Clearwater Dropped 13-2 by Daytona

CLEARWATER (April 17, 2013) -The Clearwater Threshers got shellacked 13-2 by the visiting Daytona Cubs Wednesday in the rubber match of their three-game series at Bright House Field in front of 1,805 fans.
The game was tied at two runs apiece heading into the seventh inning, but the Threshers (6-7) surrendered 11 runs over the next two frames to Daytona (7-6)to put the game out of reach. Clearwater issued a whopping 11 walks in the game, allowing the Cubs multiple prime opportunities for scoring.
The teams traded runs early on, with Clearwater getting a highlight out of right fielder Cameron Perkins' solo blast to left field that knotted the game at 2-2. The homer took starter Ethan Stewart off the hook for a loss, and gave the Threshers another chance to win.
However, reliever Colby Shreve (0-1) unraveled in the top of the seventh, hitting leadoff man Zeke DeVoss and walking Taiwan Easterling before Javier Baezsingled to load the bases. Shreve was pulled for Luis Paulino, who allowed a sacrifice fly, a single, a double, another single and a second sacrifice fly in succession, bringing in five runs for Daytona and making it 7-2.
The Cubs kept the pressure on in the eighth inning, as DeVossled off with a double that Easterlingmatched to make it 8-2. Baez then hammered a homer to left field and run the lead to 10-2. After Paulino walked John Andreoli, righty reliever Colton Murray was summoned from the pen. He plunked Stephen Bruno, and Dustin Geiger smashed a three-run homer to left to give Daytona their final 13-2 advantage.
Stewart gave up two runs over 4.1 innings, allowing three hits and walking eight batters; he struck out two. Shreve gave up three runs on two hits and two walks in 1.2 innings pitched, fanning three. Paulinocoughed up six runs on six hits and a walk in an inning-plus. Murray was charged with two runs on one hit and a hit-by-pitch; he fanned two in his two innings of action.
Daytona starter Yao-Lin Wang allowed a run on three hits and a walk over fourinnings, striking out two. Reliever Austin Kirk (2-0) tossed five innings for the win, giving up a run on three hits and two walks against four strikeouts.
The Threshers will try to right the ship Thursday against the visiting Brevard County Manatees. RightyColin Kleven will start for Clearwater against Manatees right-hander Jacob Barnes.
