Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, Fla. - Fueled by a six-run seventh inning, the Hammerheads beat the Marauders 6- 5 in comeback fashion Wednesday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
Down 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Ryan Nola started the two-out rally with a three-run homer that scored Ryan Fisher and Wilfredo Gimenez. Four straight two-out hits followed, including the go-ahead two-run single to center off the bat of Ryan Rieger, plating Josh Adams and Isaac Galloway. Austin Barnes added an RBI single to score Rieger and cap the Hammerheads' offensive explosion.
All six runs scored in the inning were unearned, thanks to a costly fielding error by Marauders' third baseman Chris Lashmet. The sixth-run inning matched the Hammerheads' season high for runs scored in an entire game.
Bradenton didn't go quietly, however, scoring a run in the top of the ninth before RHP Nick Wittgren got Willy Garcia to fly out with runners at first and second to record his second save of the season.
Jupiter's seventh inning fireworks overshadowed six shutout innings by Marauders' RHP Nick Kingham. The 21-year-old stymied the Hammerheads' bats, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out seven. He worked in the low-90s consistently, touching 95 mph on the stadium radar gun and threw 51 of his 76 pitches for strikes.
Hammerheads' starter RHP Josh Hodges allowed four runs (three earned) in 4.2 innings, striking out five. Hodges now has a 3.29 ERA in 13.2 innings this season.
RHP Ronald Barnes struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in his 2013 Hammerheads debut. The 22-year-old was added to the roster before Wednesday's game.
Rieger's go-ahead two-run single in the seventh inning extended his hitting streak to four games.
He has at least one hit in 10 of the 12 games he's played, and leads the team with a .340 batting average. Fresh off their first series win, the Hammerheads will kick off a three-game set against the Charlotte Stone Crabs Thursday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Jupiter's RHP Anthony DeSclafani will oppose Charlotte's RHP Robert Gomez on the mound.
