INF Torreyes added to Smokies roster; INF Torres promoted to AAA Iowa

KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Double-A minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announce this afternoon that INF Ronald Torreyes has been added to the team's active roster in advance of today's 7:15 p.m. game at Smokies Park. In a corresponding roster move, INF Tim Torres has been promoted to Triple-A Iowa.

The Smokies active roster remains at 25, which is the Southern League maximum.

Torreyes, 20, comes the Smokies from the Cubs' extended Spring Training and will be making his Double-A debut. In 2012, he played for the High-A Daytona Cubs and batted .264 (111-for-421) with 23 doubles, six home runs and 47 RBIs. Originally signed by Cincinnati as a non-drafted free agent in 2010, the Venezuelan native was traded to the Cubs on Dec. 23, 2011, along with LHP Travis Wood and OF Dave Sappelt for LHP Sean Marshall.

Torres, 29, hit .250 (2-for-8) in only six games for the Smokies in 2013. The Berkley, Calif. native was originally drafted by Houston in the 23rd round of the 2006 draft out of Oral Robert University, and signed with the Cubs as a minor league free agent in 2013.
