Lake Elsinore Storm News Release

Lake Elsinore, CA-After opening the season on a seven game road trip, The Storm returned to The Diamond and defeated the Inland Empire 66ers 3-0 in their sold-out home opener.

The game was a pitchers duel until the bottom of the seventh inning. With two on, and two outs, Shortstop Jace Peterson ripped a line drive single to center, scoring designated hitter Robert Kral and first baseman Lee Orr. Peterson has been coming up big lately for the Storm, having an RBI in three consecutive games. Kral has as well, now owner of a four game hit streak.

During the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, the 66ers stranded seven runners while in scoring position. This was the result of a great bullpen, collectively giving up only three hits in four innings including seven strikeouts.

Storm right fielder Yeison Asencio continued his hot streak, hitting a monster 429-foot solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning. Asencio now has a seven game hit streak, leads the team in homeruns (3), RBI's (10) and has homered in back-to-back games. Center fielder Travis Jankowski had another 2-hit game, making three consecutive games where he has had at least two hits.

RHP Matt Wisler enjoyed another great start, pitching five scoreless innings and striking out six batters on three hits. In his two starts this season, Wisler has pitched 10 innings, zero runs and has fanned 11 batters.

Come out and enjoy the first Firework's Friday of the year at the Diamond as Storm LHP Frank Garces faces off against 66ers LHP Kramer Sneed. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. with first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m.
