
Winterhawks Take 3-0 Series Lead over Spokane with 3-1 Game 3 Win

The Portland Winterhawks took a commanding 3-0 second round series lead over the Spokane Chiefs with a 3-1 Game 3 road win Tuesday.
The first period was scoreless until under a minute remained, as Ty Rattie scored a late goal to give Portland a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Nic Petan made it a 2-0 advantage at the 8:01 mark of the second, but Spokane got on the board with a power play goal by Blake Gal at the 16:24 mark to make it 2-1 going into the third. Gal's goal was Spokane's first since the second period of Game 1.
It remained a one-goal game until late in the third, and with Spokane netminder Eric Williams on the bench for an extra attacker, Taylor Leier scored into the empty net with 15 seconds remaining to seal the 3-1 win.
Portland goaltender Mac Carruth made 25 saves on 26 shots to earn the win. Williams finished with 33 saves on 35 shots, with the Hawks adding the late empty net tally.
Petan finished with two points in the win with a goal and an assist.
The Hawks can win the series tomorrow night, with Game 4 set for 7 p.m. tomorrow from Spokane.
