Colorado Eagles News Release
LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
Tuesday, April 2; Eagles Announce 2013 ECHL Playoff Roster
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles of the ECHL, proud affiliate of the National Hockey League's Winnipeg Jets & the American Hockey League's St. John's IceCaps, announced today their roster for the 2013 ECHL Kelly Cup playoffs that start this week. ECHL playoff rosters consist of a maximum of 23 players; a 20-man active roster, plus a three-man reserve list. Teams are also allowed to list players unavailable at playoff roster deadline time due to call-ups -- those players can be added to the reserve list when/if they become available, up until the start of the Conference Finals, at which point rosters are frozen.
Wednesday, April 3; Pair of Fluky Goals Help Idaho to 4-3 Overtime Win in Game 1
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Colorado Eagles, 4-3, in overtime to take Game 1 of their best-of-seven Western Conference Quarterfinals series. The Steelheads battled back all night -- with the help of two odd goals -- before scoring just 26 seconds into overtime to end the game.
Thursday, April 4; Eagles Flip Script, Take Game 2 in OT to Even Series at 1-1; Ulanski's game-winner earns Eagles first ever ECHL playoff win.
BOISE, Idaho - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Idaho Steelheads, 6-5, in overtime in Game 2 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series. The win came one night after the Steelheads came from behind for their own overtime win. With the best-of-seven series now tied at 1-1, the next three games will be played at the Budweiser Events Center on Saturday, Sunday & Tuesday.
Saturday, April 6; 5-on-3 Goal Nips Eagles in 1-0, Game 3 Loss; Colorado suffers first home shutout in 10 playoff seasons.
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Colorado Eagles, 1-0, in Game 3 of the teams' Western Conference Quarterfinals series in the ECHL's Kelly Cup playoffs to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven battle. Tyler Beskorowany stopped 20 shots to hand the Eagles' their first playoff shutout at home in the team's 10-year history, and Adrian Foster provided the only goal the Steelheads would need via a 5-on-3 power play.
Sunday, April 7; Steelheads Take 3-1 Series Lead With 5-3 Win
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Colorado Eagles, 5-3, for their second win in as many nights at the Budweiser Events Center, to take a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Quarterfinals series. Game 5 -- the final game of the series scheduled for the BEC -- will be played Tuesday night.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Tuesday, April 9 (Game 5); Eagles Look to Stay Alive in Front of Home Crowd
The Eagles will look to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win in front of their rowdy home crowd on Tuesday night in a win-or-stay-home Game 5 against the Idaho Steelheads, who currently lead the best-of-seven Western Conference Quarterfinals series, three games to one. So far the teams have played an extremely close series, with two of the games going into overtime and three of the four being decided by just a single goal.
Friday, April 12 (Game 6) & Saturday, April 13 (Game 7); If Colorado Keeps Winning...
If necessary -- if the Eagles keep winning -- Games 6 & 7 will be played back in Boise, where Colorado has played well recently. The Eagles have won two of their past four games at the CenturyLink Arena, and nearly pulled off victories in the other two.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
DAAVS IS DOING IT AGAIN - During the 2011 playoffs, Trent Daavettila helped lead the Kalamazoo Wings to the Kelly Cup Finals. In doing so, he also led the league in both assists (22) & points (28). Through four games this playoff season, Daavettila is leading the Eagles with five points (2-3-5), which ties him for 4th in the playoff field.
MAKING HIS OWN MARK - Kyle Ostrow has no prior history of an outstanding playoff performance -- because this is his first playoff experience as a pro -- but he's making his own mark so far in this opening round series. Ostrow is tied for 2nd on the Eagles in points (4), and has arguably been the team's most consistent player, recording two multi-point games out of the four played so far (most on the team). His +4 plus/minus rating is also tied with Trent Daavettila for the best on the club.
BLUE LINE SPECIAL - Another player excelling in his first playoff season as a pro is rookie blueliner Collin Bowman . Bowman's game has steadily improved throughout the year -- he finished tied for 9th in the league in defensive scoring -- and he's continued his upward trend in the "second" season. Through four games, the Littleton, Colo. native is tied for 1st among the league's d-men in points (4) and goals (2).
MUST-WIN GAME - The Eagles aren't just facing a must-win game to keep their playoff run alive, they need a "W" to put an end to what is now the longest home losing streak in team history. Colorado has dropped its past four playoff games at the Budweiser Events Center, dating back to May, 27, 2011.
BE(C) THE ADVANTAGE - Eagles fans -- as always -- have been awesome so far in the playoffs, and the team can go into its win-or-stay-home Game 5 knowing that it's got the backing of one of the ECHL's best home ice advantages behind it. During the regular season, Colorado had one of the league's best home ice advantages inside the Budweiser Events Center, where they went 22-11-3. Colorado ranked 2nd in goals on home ice (two fewer than Idaho), scoring 141 for an average of 3.9/game. Their home power play was tops in the ECHL (26.7%) & they were a perfect 15-0-0 at home when taking a lead into the third period. All-time, the Eagles have a regular season winning percentage of .746 (essentially 75%) at the BEC!
THREE'S THE MAGIC NUMBER - During the regular season, the Eagles composed a record of 32-6-2 when holding their opponents to three goals or fewer, and so far during the playoffs, they're only win has come when they've scored more than three, so it appears to again be a pivotal number. Colorado will have its hands full, however, in keeping the Steelheads' offense in check, as Idaho led the league with an average of 3.64 goals/game in the regular season. They're averaging 3.75 goals/game so far in this series.
