Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Kelowna Rockets 4-2 Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna in the opening game of the team's WHL Western Conference semi-final series.
The Blazers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and cruised to the 4-2 victory. Kamloops outshot Kelowna 18-3 in the first period in a quick start to the game that proved to be the difference.
Brendan Ranford had a pair for the Blazers while Aaron Macklin and Chase Souto also scored for Kamloops.
Kelowna got back into the game in the second period, as Henrik Nyberg and Cole Linaker had goals to cut the Kamloops lead to 3-2. But they couldn't get the tying goal and Souto's goal in the third gave the Blazers the insurance marker and the 4-2 win.
Rockets netminder Jordon Cooke was solid in net as the Rockets were outshot 33-23 on the night.
The Rockets and Blazers are back at it on Sunday afternoon at Prospera Place in a special 5 p.m. start. Noise makers will be provided by Pushor Mitchell at the game and tickets are available.
