The Hitmen had a hat-trick from Brady Brassart to lead Calgary to a 4-2 Saddledome. The Hitmen lead the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semi-final 1-0.

FIRST PERIOD

Calgary, who eliminated the Swift Current Broncos in five games, came out ready: the Rebels were outplayed early on.

The Hitmen scored the first goal of the series at 11:55 when Brassart tipped in a point shot from Spencer Humphries. Red Deer outshot Calgary 8-7.

SECOND PERIOD

Calgary added to their lead just at 1:21 when Alex Roach scored on the powerplay.

Red Deer showed more jump and urgency after they scored. But Calgary went up 2-1 when Brassart scored on a rebound, right in the blue paint, at 6:24. PATRIK BARTOSAK made two big saves but the third did couldn't do anything about the third shot. Brassart completed his hat-trick on the power play from in close to put the Hitmen up 4-1 at the 9:19 mark.

Shots 13-9 in favour of the Hitmen.

THIRD PERIOD

Rebel captain TURNER ELSON cut the lead to 4-2 when he zoomed down centre ice and cut to the left side at 7:02. Elson's shot wasn't smothered with mustard, but it did have some bite and fooled Hitmen goalie Chris Driedger.
