Colorado Eagles News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Idaho Steelheads, 6-5, in overtime in Game 2 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series. The win came one night after the Steelheads came from behind for their own overtime win. With the best-of-seven series now tied at 1-1, the next three games will be played at the Budweiser Events Center on Saturday, Sunday & Tuesday.

The teams traded power-play goals in the first frame to enter the first intermission tied at 1. Idaho got on the board first -- just 22 seconds into their only man-advantage chance of the period -- when Matt Case's blast from the point was deflected past Adam Brown at 5:33.

Colorado countered on their second power play of the period when Trent Daavettila sent a drop-pass into the high slot from the right circle where Aaron Schneekloth stepped into it for a tying blast past Josh Robinson at 19:17.

The second stanza was a wide open one, with the goaltenders acting as the stars for the first 15 minutes of play. But 16 minutes in, Schneekloth put home his second power-play goal of the night when the defenseman pinched down to the doorstep and put home a Kevin Ulanski rebound to make it 2-1. The lead didn't last long.

Just 34 seconds later, Idaho tied the game back up at 2 when Jace Coyle's shot went wide right of the net, but bounced back to the left post where a wide open Rylan Galiardi was able to easily toss it home. And just 43 seconds after that Austin Fyten capped off a 3-on-2 rush to put the home team back on top.

Following that goal, Kyle Jones replaced Brown in the Eagles' net, but things didn't go much better for him, as just over two minutes later -- with just 26 seconds left in the period -- the Steelheads used another bank-pass off the end boards in which Brett Robinson put home a Steve Ferry rebound to make it 4-2 heading into the third period.

Colorado showed its resiliency in the third period. Six minutes in, Collin Bowman cut Idaho's lead to 4-3 with the Eagles' third power-play goal of the night with a blast from the left point. Then midway through the frame, Michael Forney tied the game up again when he put home a loose puck from the low slot.

Chad Costello put Colorado on top, 5-4, at 14:16 with a shot from the right mid-boards following a faceoff in the right circle. But the Steelheads came back once more to knot things up again when Austin Smith's shot from the point changed direction on the way to the net and got by Jones two and a half minutes later. And with that goal, the teams would head to overtime for the second night in a row.

The tension mounted in the extra frame as Colorado was forced to kill a penalty midway through. Seven minutes after doing so successfully, Jake Marto sped down the left wing and sent a pass into the slot where a crashing Ulanski was able to put it home for the game-winner.
