Generals Take Game 4, Series Now 3-1

St. Catahrines, Ontario - The Generals put themselves in the driver's seat on Thursday, scoring four unanswered goals to defeat the IceDogs in Game 4 of the series, giving them a commanding 3-1 series lead. The 3,145 in attendance at the Gatorade Garden City Complex were treated to an exciting show, as their IceDogs opened the scoring early in the second. The Generals were quick to respond, as Scott Laughton and Bradley Latour provided the offence, with Laughton picking up two to push his playoff total to six. Daniel Altshuller was sensational in net, making 28 saves, most of which had Niagara's players looking to the roof. Scott Laughton recorded 4 points in the victory (2 goals, 2 assists).

The Niagara IceDogs cut into the Generals series lead on Tuesday, coming out on top with a 4-2 victory. The IceDogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the first two periods before the Generals responded with a Cole Cassels goal in the third. Niagara responded shortly after to extend their lead to 4-1, and held out for the 4-2 win, making the series 2-1 for the Generals. Daniel Altshuller was the netminder for Oshawa, making 31 saves in the loss. Scott Laughton continued to have a hot hand in the series, scoring Oshawa's second goal to give him seven points in the series so far, tying him for second in the league in that category.

A scoreless first was highlighted by a high tempo battle, with both teams getting several chances to score, as long stretches of play uninterrupted by whistles. Daniel Altshuller and Christopher Festarini stood tall in their respective nets, both making several big stops to keep the score 0-0 after 20 minutes.

The IceDogs were the first team to get on the board in the second period, as Anthony DiFruscia tipped blast from the point past Altshuller for the 1-0 lead 1:13 into the period. The Generals responded shortly after as Scott Laughton continued to have a hot hand, scoring a shorthanded goal.

A tired Niagara powerplay put the pressure on the Generals, as they cycled the puck in the offensive end. The penalty-kill duo Hughes and Jenner fought for possession of the puck as they exited their defensive end. Dishing the puck to Jenner, Hughes changed on the fly to send the speedy Laughton in on the 2-on-1. Jenner dished the puck to Laughton, and the Oakville native wasted no time, roofing a shot over Festarini for his 5th of the series, tying the game 1-1.

After Bradley Latour scored his 2nd of the series, it was Laughton who once again would prove to be a thorn in the IceDogs' side as he fired his 6th of the series over the shoulder of Festarini for the 3-1 lead. Daniel Altshuller put on a goaltending clinic, making 13 saves in the period with his best stop coming against Brett Ritchie, as the netminder dove to rob the 41-goal scorer with the glove.

The IceDogs put the pressure on the Generals in the third, storming the Generals end with their impressive cycle game. The Generals stood tall, getting all players in the act as they held off Niagara`s attack to claim Game 4 and the 3-1 series lead.

Niagara outshot the Generals 29-27.

Scott Laughton and Bradley Latour were selected as the first and second stars of the game.

Game 5 returns to the General Motors Centre on March 29th, as the Generals look to close out the series at home. The Game can be seen on Rogers TV Durham with puck drop set for 7:35pm. Fans are encouraged to wear red throughout the playoffs to cheer on the Generals. Tickets for Game 5 will be available for purchase at the General Motors Centre Box Office, which opens at 10am.
