Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, Neb. - On Wednesday evening Storm captain Brian Ward showed some skill off the ice, winning the first ever Dickey's Arch Attack Challenge at Dickey's Barbecue Pit in the Archway Museum.
Ward ate the most food out of any of the contestants in the eating challenge, which included six men who each went up against a platter of barbeque food that nearly totaled six pounds.
The Arch Attack Challenge sandwich included four pulled pork sandwiches, five orders of waffle fries, two full size pickles and one western sandwich that was strategically placed on top of the platter to form the "arch".
Storm defenseman Dylan Maller also participated and finished as the runner-up to Ward.
After 32 minutes had elapsed, none of the contestants had finished the mammoth portion of food, but both Ward and Maller were still eating.
The players received praise from the audience in attendance as well as their fellow competitors, which included Nebraska Danger offensive lineman D'Angelo McCray, NTV Meteorologist Tim Reith and Kearney Chamber of Commerce Membership Director Josh Jelden.
The contest coincided with the announcement of the challenge, which is now available for all patrons at Dickey's in the Archway.
Tri-City is on the road this weekend for two games in Waterloo and Des Moines. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. The Storm will return home next weekend for another matchup with Des Moines on Apr. 6 at 7:05.
