Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, Pa - According to officials of The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, manager Chris Bando has resigned, due to health reasons and will not return to Washington for the 2013 baseball season. Bart Zeller, who was named Wild Things' bench coach in December, has been tapped to succeed Bando.

Bando joined the Wild Things in 2012 with 28 years of professional baseball experience. During his playing career he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians. He went on to coach in the minor leagues for several years before accepting the position of athletic director and head baseball coach for San Diego Christian College.

"I'd like to thank all involved in the Wild Things Organization for running a caring first class organization. I especially would like to thank Stu Williams for his commitment to Washington and developing a winning organization. Although we fell short in the standings last year, we are thankful for the seven players who signed pro contracts with organizations," said Bando. "Due to hip surgery this January, unforeseen complications happened that I did not anticipate. I have not been cleared for the full time physical activity demanded of a manager for another 8-12 months. Because of that, I must resign as manager of the Wild Things. We have assembled a stellar group of talented players for this season, and I anticipate Bart Zeller leading the Wild Things to the playoffs in 2013."

Bando concluded by saying, Thank you all for your support during this past season. Washington PA will be missed but the Wild Things will be closely followed all summer!"

Zeller, who will step in as skipper for the Wild Things said, "I am truly excited about the opportunity Stu Williams and Steve Zavacky have presented to me. The chance to become a part of the Washington Wild Things organization and to work with a great group of players is fantastic. I'm so sorry that Chris Bando has had difficulties with his recent hip surgery, thus resulting in his resignation. Chris and I have been working over the winter to put a competitive baseball team together for the organization and for the fans of the Washington area. Washington was always one of my favorite cities to visit when I was with Joliet and Southern Illinois. I look forward to meeting the fans and to providing exciting and aggressive baseball for those attending our games. I want to see you out at the park...say hello!"

The Wild Things will host the Southern Illinois Miners for their 2013 Home Opener on May 24th. For information on season tickets and group outings, call or visit the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office. Box Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. For further information, log onto www.washingtonwildthings.com .
